Fans of Sonic had to wait 2 additional weeks for Sonic Mania to be released on Steam. But now that the game is finally downloadable, it turns out it's "packed" with the infamous Denuvo and can't be played offline. Naturally, most of the people who bought the game aren't happy about it, and they have their voice heard by posting negative reviews on Steam.
To make matters worse, the reviews point out that the End User License Agreement does not mention anything about the installation of Denuvo and the requirement to be constantly online to be able to play Sonic Mania. Definitely not the start Sega were hoping for, but they've already addressed the issue. Here's their official statement:
Like you, we've noticed an error in the Steam store not mentioning the DRM for Sonic Mania.
We're fixing that now.
Sonic Mania is intended to be played offline and we're investigating reports on that.
We're also investigating other issues like controller support, these are all PC specific things that Christian and the team have been working on these last few weeks.
Please bare with us while we collate and investigate problems that are being brought to our attention.
Sonic Mania has been enjoying lots of success on consoles with an average score of 89, and it's only fitting that PC gamers get the version they deserve, too! We sincerely hope Sega will fix things pronto!
