I'm being asked to supply a little review on this Glorious XL Extended 14"x24" mat.
I discovered this as an option on Reddit when I was looking for desk mat options and I worried about the felt ones being too rough a surface for my mouse or that they would wear or get pilly quickly.
I saw this as an option and liked that it had stitching around the edges and fabric on the top to give it more of a nice look go to in my office.
When I first got it out of the box I was a bit disappointed by the fabric. It's techy, like a slightly more fabric synthetic look to a mouse pad from the 90s. It's just a bit too shiny and kind of reminds me of neoprene cases. Might be awesome for some but as a graphic designer the felt ones would have suited the look I was after much better.
The stitching on the edges is really nice and done well and for the most part the pad stays flat. On the edges the mat is still just a tiny bit lifted so if I were to tap my fingers on it, I can hear a tap noting that it's not quite touching the desk below. Maybe this will go away with time but I think it's been sitting on my desk for about 2 weeks so far.
The other issue I have is with heat. I was buying a mat partially for aesthetics and a mouse pad. I figured my laptop could sit on the mat to keep it in place and then I could use just the side section for my mouse. The only problem is the clearance is a bit less once the laptop depresses into the fabric leaving less room for heat dissipation so the fans spin up more than regular. It is a butterfly keyboard macbook pro so I'm not surprised but still too bad. I could add a couple business cards toward the rear of the laptop to increase that space but I was really looking for a streamlined, aesthetically pleasing, fully functional solution but unfortunately, this isn't quite it. Right now, I'm just using it as a giant mouse pad where I also sit a potted plant and beverages and it works really well. Just still not stoked about the look so I'll likely look into a different solution.
Functionally, the mat is great. Doesn't slide around due to the size and being able to add other objects on it to ensure that. Tracking is smooth. Doesn't pick up too much dirt too quickly but you can definitely see any bits of dust that collect due to it being black.
The stealth mark is a nice touch. I especially like that this version doesn't say glorious on it, it just has a shiny black logo. Nice.
I'd say if you're a gamer looking for performance and want your rig to look sweet in the dark and optimize your cooling over aesthetics or use a laptop riser etc, this would probably be perfect for ya.
